Through co-production with partners, we have developed a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Anti-Discrimination Toolkit to support and enable our NHS colleagues to learn more, support others and to have difficult and complex conversations about diversity within the workplace.

Did you know that:
- 25% of NHS staff have experienced, bullying, harassment or abuse in the last 12 months from patients
- 9% have experienced it from managers
- 18% have experienced it from colleagues
- The cost of bullying, harassment or abuse on NHS staff is estimated to be £2 billion per annum due to sickness absence, high employee turnover, and lost productivity
- Incidents of discrimination are often under reported by different characteristic groups.
We (in the NHS) have a legal duty to eliminate discrimination in all aspects of our work. We also have a duty of care to both patients and staff; however, this does not mean that discriminatory behaviour from staff, managers, patients, visitors or the public should be tolerated.
Through co-production with our system colleagues, we developed and have distributed a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Anti-Discrimination Toolkit to support and enable our NHS colleagues to learn more, support others and have difficult and complex conversations about diversity within the workplace. The toolkit provides practical guidance for all to help you (as an ally, a manager and as an individual) feel confident and competent to raise concerns, challenge and report inappropriate behaviours wherever encountered.
The toolkit has been adapted for our own staff and can be found on Stay Connected, along with further information such how to raise a concern and the Incident Reporting Form: (3) Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – Stay Connected
Working together across our Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS system we can all play an active role in creating healthy work environments where everyone can flourish, and where we proactively stand up to racism or any form of discrimination, harassment, bullying or abuse where we encounter it.
Our safe space sessions with primary care and other work highlights the need for support around enabling our primary care colleagues to learn more, support others and have difficult and complex conversations about diversity within the workplace.
