What helps me relax and refocus

Good quality downtime when not at work is really important for me personally. It gives me the opportunity to have time out and focus on other things that are important to me such as reconnecting with friends and family.  I’m always aware of the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle through attending the gym and dog walking.  I have also committed to increase my reading  which Is something I’ve always enjoyed, but now rarely do.

My best health /wellbeing discovery is…

I’ve recently got an allotment which initially was hard work over the winter months but when you sow the fruits of your labour it all becomes worthwhile. It’s a great way to get some quality outdoor time whilst keeping active and even socialising with a new group of friends.

Health/wellbeing goals I’m working on

Like many, the new year is always a time to reflect on personal goals.  My role involves a significant amount of time on virtual meetings whilst sitting at a laptop.  I am going to get a standing desk that will allow me more flexibility to change position and think more about my posture during the working day.

I would also like to be more consistent with my finish times at the end of the day – it’s always easy to overrun and go beyond the set working day which sometimes is unavoidable.  However flexibility and consistency is important so that I can plan my working tasks in a way so I will mostly finish on time.

Do you have a health/wellbeing story or experience to share? If so, can you tell us a little bit about it?

I supported Wellfest across HIOW last summer and worked with my fantastic colleagues to ensure that the offers for our colleagues at Wellfest were varied and represented different cultures such as Turban Tying, Bhangra keep fit dance classes and African drumming!
